The City of Harare launched a Municipal Traffic Police Training Programme whereby municipal police officers will be trained to deal with the congestion issue that has emanated in the city and to enforce the traffic regulations.
The Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Honorable July Moyo was the guest of honor and he was pleased by the efforts made by the City of Harare in increasing the law enforcement officers. He said that there are very few traffic enforcement officers as compared to the number of vehicles (mshika shika) parading the streets of Harare that is why there is need for more law enforcement officers.
This programme is going to be implemented with the help of the Zimbabwe Republic Police. “The programme is there. The Zimbabwe Republic Police is going to facilitate this”, said Mr Chimombe, the Acting Traffic Enforcement Manager.
The Ministry of Local Government and Public works has disbursed close to $55billion dollars which will be used to facilitate the purchasing of tow-vehicles and motorcycles in the battle against traffic congestion.
